Jake Johnson
Jake is currently a Part II architectural assistant working at Dexter Moren Associates and will be starting his part III studies in September 2021. He previously studied at Central Saint Martins and the University of Bath. He joined Architecture LGBT+ in spring 2021, running our podcast series & assisting in event organisation.
His masters project 'Queer Coding: Perception of safety' aimed to reveal the vulnerability of queer individuals within the city. Appropriating traditional methods of covert communication in the LGBT community, such as Polari and the handkerchief code, he experimented with the use of code to record spatial and cultural characteristics in the public realm. Developing a method to objectively record the perception of safety of queer people, the subsequent spatial matrix could then be used to explore trends and anomalies to inform propositions that may attempt to improve the perception of safety in the city.
In his spare time he enjoys running with London Frontrunners LGBT running club, nights out, watching RuPaul's drag race and getting out on his bike.
Jake’s pronouns are he/him.
